ION partners with Amazon to conserve water at affordable housing communities in Northern Virginia.

Amazon recently announced two new water replenishment projects in Virginia — and ION Water is proud to be part of one of them. Through our partnership, ION’s End-to-End Water Management system is being deployed across five multi-unit affordable housing properties in Northern Virginia, using an AWS-hosted platform to give property managers real-time data to find and eliminate leaks before they show up on a utility bill. Implementation began in 2025 and runs through 2035, with the program expected to conserve more than 45 million gallons of water per year.

Combined with Amazon’s dairy farm nutrient-reduction initiative and an existing watershed restoration project with the Stroud Water Research Center, Amazon is now replenishing more than 630 million gallons of water per year in Virginia — meaningful progress toward its commitment to be water positive by 2030.

For affordable housing residents and property owners, the benefits are just as tangible: lower operating costs, improved NOI, and greater long-term property sustainability.
